Not Your Average Chiropractor

Over here at M+C, we’re pretty psyched (ok, really psyched) to announce the launch of a project we’ve been working on with Dr. Brandey Dollens, Chiropractor extraordinaire. When MAC initially met with Dr. B, all of her promotional collateral was homemade and her overall branding was undifferentiated from all the other chiropractors in the community. Given Dr. B’s youthful enthusiasm and genuine care for her patients, we knew she could do better. Read the rest of this entry »

We’ve had the pleasure of shooting for our good friend and filmmaker Erahm Christopher on a number of occasions and every time is a blast. A man on a mission and a true visionary, Erahm co-created Teen Truth Live, an anti-bullying program that is “committed to empowering youth to make a difference in their worlds by giving them a voice and challenging them to think differently”. So far they’ve created three incredibly powerful student-filmed movies about bullying, substance abuse and body image. From the mouths of babes…

Some good ol’ fashioned washboard jamming. Thank god our friend Tamar had the good sense to buy their CD. It’s on heavy rotation at Chez M+C.

Running across OMAR was one of those unnerving things that gets under your skin and nags at you until you just can’t do anything but heed “the voice” – the one that tells you that you were an asshole for not bringing a camera with you when you left the house – the one that taunts you mercilessly with “you say you’re gonna come back some day and get this guy’s picture, but really, you won’t”.

Well, we proved the voice wrong. We went home, got the camera, came back and asked Omar if we could take his portrait.

He obliged, we were happy and the other guys in the shop no doubt ribbed him for being the day’s unassuming subject. Omar is one of the dapper barbers at Sweeney Todd’s Barber Shop, where they are serious about their scissors, service and pompadours.

In a word, dude is heavy. Meet ANTHONY AQUARIUS MYSTERY – a man so transformed by Jimmy’s music that he embodies every note he shreds on his guitar. Notice please that he, too, is left-handed like our guitar god great.

He is not however, that great at picking out astrological signs. He guessed that MAC was born in July, which is totally wrong, but nevertheless led to a brief discussion on Air Signs. (We think he might have been picking up on some super cosmic time-and-space shit since July is actually COB’s birth month – a big shout out to all you Cancer Dragons!)

You can catch Mr. Mystery playing with his tribute band all over town, or whenever he performs at the EPFM, on Fridays from 3-7pm in the municipal parking lot south of Sunset at Logan.

In early February, M+C were in Palm Springs for a mixed bag of fun – part work/part play with some good friends. We stayed at the über-hip ACE Hotel and Swim Club – a mid-century remodel that in better weather, is a bonafide adult playland. During dinner in the attached King’s Highway (once an IHOP), we were serenaded by the inimitable LINDA GERARD, hostess and entertainer-extraordinaire. Ok, full disclosure: MAC had to be restrained and reminded at least twice to stop singing along to Linda’s a capella versions of some show tune favorites from the 40s. Linda was a real sport in letting us take a portrait of her at 7am the next morning. And COB was a champion for not letting the previous evening’s Yemen Drops stand in his creative way.
